i cannot answer your questions at this point.
Sofar it is not clear what kind of scratches are on Herves films and how bad they are.
Your statements imply that all Films we make are scratched and useless and that the master rolls are defective and you even imply the machines might not be clean (I am exagurating a bit and I personally think you do not want to cause any harm to us but think about the impression your statements might leave to the unexpirienced readers !).
None of this has yet been confirmed, checked or proofed.
I just want to make this very clear for everyone.
Very small scratches are always on every film on the backside because it mooves over steel rolls and they are turned to moove the film foreward, but these scratches are invisible in enlarging.
They always have been there and they always will be there and you can see them under the microscope but after the light penetrates through the emulsion they are diffused to an extend that you absolutely don?t see anything in the image.
More modern machines are causing this a bit less than older machines but the films are made and sold since 1952 in Samobor and if they would be useless in a way that master rolls have visible scratches the succes of these films and the survival of the company could not be explained.
This is not dependant on quantities as it would be mechanical and not chemical.
This would be a structural unfixable problem and I am positive it does not exist in a way you see it.
Scanners are about twice as sensitive to these scratches as conventional enlarger are.
So sometimes you see scratches on a scan but not on an actual image.
Any type of scratch that goes beyond this level of micro and invisible has to be investigated.
After this we can answer these questions.
My assumption would be that scratches, if present, are caused by the perforating machine and not the coating machines because then they would show on 120 and Sheetfilms as well.
But again- I am no magician and I cannot answer things which I have not seen yet.
