Good morning,

Fancy grabbing a quick batch of film?
We’re getting to the point where we’re lamenting the days when we used to lament the loss of Kodachrome...
May the light be with you, and with Kodak

Hi Frank,
It sounds dramatic, but it doesn’t have to be. I’ve just had a quick look online and realised that Kodak really isn’t doing well, but ironically, the division dealing with traditional silver photography – often referred to as ‘analogue’ – is the only one at Kodak turning a profit, albeit a small one. The reason Kodak is struggling isn’t because they missed the boat on the transition, but rather because they weren’t able to properly monetise their pioneering work. A Kodak employee confided this to me quite some time ago. The large Kodak factory here has long been leased out to other companies.
Insolvency would hit Leica hard, as they source their sensors from Kodak. The reference to Kodak chemicals also appears to be in doubt, as the Champignon plant in England, which produced Kodak chemicals, has been shut down.
But these are all just rumours.
We can only hope that someone like our host will be found in the US to continue production in small batches, should the big crash actually happen.
Regards, Achim
