Hello NG, I noticed today whilst enlarging that the gradation control on my Durst CLS 450 isn’t working properly anymore. The magenta filter isn’t working properly; I can still turn the knob as much as I like, but the filter setting doesn’t change at all. Can anyone help me? Is it something I can fix myself? Hi NG, I’ve found the problem: the paint has flaked off the magenta filter. Well, what now? Does anyone know where I can get a new filter? Would it be possible to use filters from the Durst M605 instead? Thanks for your help. Best regards, Steffen

Dichroic filters are used for gradation filtering; these achieve the colour through interference rather than absorption. They are usually trapezoidal glass plates. If you want to strip down an M605 (which I’d think twice about), then you’ll certainly manage it. Prerequisite: the trapezoids must be roughly the same size. I would try to break off the defective filter leaving just a small residue and attach the new one there using superglue (polyacrylate). You must expect that the filter numbers will no longer be identical. If you work in black and white, this is fairly unimportant: here, differences are more important (more ‘hard’ contrast) than the absolute value.

Hi Steffen and Uwe, I’m not sure what ‘interference’ means, but one thing I know for sure is that it’s far too hot in the lamp head for superglue. Not a chance. If gluing is the only option, as far as I know it only works with special high-temperature epoxy resin (the sort used to make motorbike exhausts, for example), and you can’t buy that stuff by the drop. Perhaps one of the surely numerous M605 owners could measure the size of the little filters? Best wishes, Frank
