Hello,
I’m new to the forum and have a question straight away. I’d be interested to know how you rinse your baryta paper. So far, I’ve been using a pH-neutral fixer in two baths, followed by rinsing for up to an hour. I’ve heard that a soda bath can significantly reduce the rinsing time. Others recommend Wash-Aid. However, I’m a bit wary of Wash-Aid. What do you think, and what methods do you use?
Many thanks!
Knoll
Hello Knoll,
I recommend the soda bath.
You can get it from a chemist (soda sicc.).
It doesn’t cost much and is very effective.
It’s important that you briefly rinse the paper under running water before immersing it in the soda bath.
That way, the soda doesn’t neutralise as quickly.
The paper should feel slightly slippery after the soda bath – then it’s ready.
The final soaking time depends on the water temperature, agitation and ambient conditions, as well as the thickness of the paper.
I leave my card-thick Vario Classic in there for an hour.
You should always rinse it out thoroughly, also with regard to the tension cloth of the drying press!!!
Best regards: Stefan
