Hello everyone, I’ve managed to get hold of two bottles of Tetenal Ultrafin and Agfa Neutol NE from a laboratory clearance sale. Apparently, they’ve never been opened and definitely date back to the last century (old postcodes). Do you think these chemicals are still any good? Thanks for your thoughts. Best regards Guido

Give it a go. Anything else is just speculation. It’s just as easy to speculate on how long the solutions will keep once they’ve been opened. Best regards, Franz

Good evening everyone, I’ve at least tried out the paper developer. The Neutol still works. However, I had to triple the development time (1+10 dilution) to get a decent print. I’ll test the Ultrafin another time. Best regards, Guido

Then just chuck Ultrafin straight away. For one thing, it’s not particularly good anyway; for another, it’s probably gone off by now. Paper developers last longer simply because you can actually see them working. You can’t do that with film developers; at best, old solutions just make the developing process more exciting or get the pulse racing in half-dead lab technicians. Best regards, Franz
