For those of you in the know, there’s probably nothing new here, but it’s nice to see the media increasingly picking up on articles along the lines of “Analogue isn’t dead – it’s something unique”. If this catches on, hopefully I won’t have to answer that tiresome opening question – “analogue – does anyone even do that sort of thing anymore?” – at my next meeting with the guarantee bank :-) Best regards, Mirko Welt online, 13 January 2011

Great! And it’s also impressive how so-called “quality journalism” is hanging on by a thread thanks to secondary exploitation. Why am I still paying for my newspaper when I get its content months in advance via television, which I’m also forced to fund? Best regards, Franz

Hi Mirko, Thanks for the link! It is, or was, just a matter of time (at least, I think so). People have tried to ‘reinvent’ photography on a digital basis. From a purely technical point of view, they’ve succeeded. But photography isn’t just about shooting and post-processing techniques. Analogue thinking and perception are also very well reflected in the analogue workflow of photography. The fact that analogue photography is now being rediscovered primarily by hobbyists and amateur photographers will hopefully lead to photography once again being perceived more as a content-driven medium of artistic expression. This isn’t about being quick, cheap and available everywhere, as in the professional sector; this is about photographic ‘freedom’. Warm regards from Munich: Stefan

Franz, That’s not quite right. If you’re referring to the RBB report – the editor wasn’t even aware of it. He interviewed everyone mentioned and researched everything in the report himself on 12 January. For a report produced on a daily basis (which it was), the journalistic work behind it is more than commendable. Best regards, Mirko

Very well. Then I shall withdraw the accusation of rehashing here too (as I did elsewhere yesterday) and join in a song of praise for the newspaper to which I too have subscribed for years. The paper has, in fact, already incorporated exactly two key selling points into its product description: it can be read in under twenty minutes without the arts and sports sections (one saves the arts section for lunchtime). And it’s enough to light the tiled stove twice a day, thus saving massively on gas costs for the central heating. Best regards, Franz
