Hello! I’m looking to get back into photo development. I used to do this back in the GDR days. Unfortunately, I’m a bit out of practice. With a mixing ratio of 1:50, do I need to use 10ml of chemical and 490ml of water to make a 500ml solution? Which black-and-white PE paper is best suited for beginners? Thanks.

Hello, 1:50 simply means adding 10ml of concentrate to the measuring jug and topping it up with water to 50 times that amount, i.e. 500ml. When it comes to paper, it’s best to start with the cheapest high-gloss option; you’ll certainly need to practise again and rekindle those experiences from a few decades back, and besides, your taste needs to develop first (image tone, surface). Hello! That’s correct. However, please note the difference between [color="#FF0000"]:[/colo and [color="#FF0000"]+[/colo! 1+4 means that the total must be divided by 5. E.g. (1+4) => 100ml + 400ml = 500ml. Best regards Björn

Thank you very much. I think I’ll get the hang of it again quite quickly. Back in the GDR days, everything was explained very clearly in the developers’ instructions; you could hardly go wrong. If I’ve understood correctly, Foma PE paper is probably best suited for the first few attempts.

To start with, I can recommend ADOX Easy Print paper. Depending on the size you prefer, it’s sometimes even cheaper than the Foma paper. In any case, it’s slightly thicker than the Foma paper and doesn’t float up in the tray.

I, too – as someone who only started enlarging photos last year – would definitely recommend Adox Easy Print, although I prefer and recommend the matte version. (And not just to flatter the host.)

I’m not a fan of matt paper. I prefer glossy. Does anyone know where to find the development times for Foma 200 in a Jobo rotary processor with an A49? I haven’t been able to find anything on Google so far. Regards, Rene

You just use the times for tilt-tank development and pre-rinse for 5 minutes. Developer table @ Mirko: Tell me, how do you actually get from your website to the developer table I linked to above? I had to Google it. I clicked my fingers off :D Regards, Sven.

Yes. I develop at 1+1 and then multiply the time by 1.5. Just develop a film and see how it turns out. Then check if anything bothers you and adjust the settings. Regards, Sven.

Yes. I conduct the development with a 1+1 ratio and then multiply the time by 1.5. Just conduct the development and see how it turns out. Then check if anything bothers you and adjust the settings. Regards, Sven.

If you develop at 24 degrees, does anyone know by how much you can reduce the development time? Are there any empirical values for this? Rene
