So, this is my first thread here and I’ve got a few questions about negative development: 1) Can I use the exposed areas at the edges (on 35mm films) just to test things out? So if they print perfectly under white light, then the development is just right (without pushing). If they’re too faint to print under white light, then the development was too weak, right? 2) How long does a batch of Moersch eco film developer last? Can I use it until it turns orange, or is there a sort of ‘sudden death’ point? Because when experimenting (pinhole camera with cut-up 35mm and roll films), you can’t just throw everything in at once; until you’ve got the hang of the technique, you have to put one or two pieces of film into the tank one after the other. 3) What Schwarzschild values can be expected with the HP5 (necessary extension for a measured time of 1 minute)? Will the new AP 100/400 be better?

I would never test my films using the margin markings. – How is that supposed to work? The development depends on the exposure and the subject contrast. What do you mean by ‘printing under white light’? Re 3.) The Schwarzschild behaviour of the HP5+ is stated in the data sheet. Regards Björn

Re 1) Of course, development depends on exposure and subject contrast. But assuming you have a subject with normal contrast and expose at nominal sensitivity, does the negative contrast then correspond to the margin exposure contrast, or not? Printing with white light means without a filter in the drawer and all colours on the colour mixing head set to 0.
