Hello everyone,
Yesterday I developed the new Adox AP 400 for the first time. At first glance, the developed negatives looked perfectly normal, but later I noticed that there were dark spots scattered irregularly across the unexposed end of the film. These are spread across the entire surface of the film, including the perforations, and appear to be light to medium grey. They are approximately half a millimetre in size, and in some cases even smaller.
Naturally, this raises the question of where these spots are coming from. I have already been able to rule out the following:
1. The chemicals: both the developer (ATM49, freshly prepared two days earlier) and the fixer (Agfa Agefix 1+4) had worked perfectly the day before.
2. Light leak in the camera (Olympus XA): The symptoms do not match this; it would tend to produce streaks rather than dots.
3. Fogging during loading: in that case, the entire film would be affected evenly, not just in isolated spots.
4. Partial pressure exposure: this could be the most likely cause, but the defects are distributed too regularly for that.
Does anyone else have any ideas? It’s the first time I’ve seen anything like this on a film I’ve developed myself. Could a defect in the emulsion be a possibility?
