Hello everyone,
I own a Focomat V35 with a black-and-white head.
The seller told me that I should only use a green
DuKa lamp with the enlarger, because
of the red filter.
As I don’t have enough experience, but have already
noticed that buying paper is far easier
if you have a red DuKa lamp, I’m wondering
and asking you all :) whether this is absolutely necessary and, if so, why.
Or whether I can simply use a red DuKa lamp.
The sales assistant told me it was because of the red filter... which
I don’t actually have to use, do I...?!
Many thanks in advance for your help.
Best regards,
Laura

Hello
You don’t normally need the red filter on the V35… if anything, just to check the crop again once the paper is loaded…
The DuKa lamp should generally be set to RED; most Vario papers work best with that... I’d be cautious with green... (though this is specified in the information sheets for the paper). I only use red DuKa light...

Laura,
It depends on the paper. Foma paper, for example, only works with red DuKa light.
For DuKa light, I recommend a red LED bulb with as few diodes as possible.

Hi Laura,
The enlarger is brilliant.
Actually, I only have red light in my darkroom.
The problem with green light is that it usually causes
a fog on modern paper.
Best wishes,
Lovis
