Does anyone on the forum have any experience with using Agfa Rondinax film, Rodinal (1+50) and Agfa APX 100 together? How long to develop, how often to agitate, and so on. I haven’t developed film myself for ages, but I’d like to get back into it now. It would be great if everything didn’t go wrong on my first attempt.

According to my tests, at least 5 ml of concentrate per KB36 is required. Regards, Wolfgang

So, I’ve now developed my first roll of film and I’m quite happy with the results. I developed the film for 14.5 minutes in a Rondinax canister, turning it half a turn every 2 seconds (4ml Rodinal, 200ml water). It might have been a bit too long, though, as the negatives have turned out slightly darker than expected. Does the duration of the fixing process also affect the results?

Hi Georg, Only fixing for too short a time affects the print’s durability. But developing for 14.5 minutes was too long for shots taken in bright sunlight; 11 minutes would have been better. What you perceive as grain isn’t the individual silver crystals, but irregular clusters of them. The silver crystals are about 1/1000 mm in size, which no enlarger lens can reproduce. Perhaps try Franz’s tip, namely developing at 16°C (which means 15.5 minutes instead of 11). This results in a more uniform silver structure. Regards, Wolfgang
