At the weekend, I mixed up a sachet of Adotol Konstant (5 l). The sachet was manufactured in February 2017.
€
The powder was already a sandy colour, no longer white, and the developer now looks like strong black tea. It already looks like it usually does when you leave it sitting in the tray for a long time.
€
Of course the developer works, but I wonder if it really lasts as long as it usually does. The old batch I threw away the other day was still lighter than this one after almost a year (like apple juice). It’s a shame, really – I should have kept it – but I thought that now the developing season is starting for me, I want fresh stuff again.
€
There are still two bags left, and they’re already turning brown around the edges.
€
Should I trust this, or is the mixture actually going off too quickly? Moisture must have got in, right?
€
Thanks for all the tips!

I experienced the same issue (manufactured in June 2017). I suspect that the transparent plastic packaging is not impermeable to oxygen diffusion, which means oxidation occurs even whilst the powder is still in the packaging. Regardless of the colour, I was able to use the developer without any noticeable change in its development properties right up to the usage limit of 4 m²/l stated on the packaging. However, this was PE paper, which already contains developing agents. I also used up the solution within a week.

I also had the impression that the weld isn’t properly sealed.
?
But as long as it works normally, it’s not a big deal. I just thought it might be a bit less effective.
?
What material is that turning brown? Does anyone here know? Maybe it’s not really a big deal.
