Good evening, Does anyone have (or have had) any experience with the film/dia lights on the Polaroid ProPalette 8000 or HR 6000 models? I have a few questions regarding how they work and how to use them, as I’m planning to buy one. 1. Do the devices only work with Rasterplus? 2. What does the included driver/plugin do? 3. Do I need specific SCSI cards, or will any work? 4. As a Mac user, I’m in a bit of a bind, as the software seems to have stopped at OS 8 or 9. Can I also run the device on a current Intel Mac via XP provided I can find a SCSI card?...and what do I need for that? 5. What else should I bear in mind? Many thanks Marc

Hi Marc, I’ve had a very good experience with the device (HR6000+), apart from the fact that it isn’t the fastest :-( 1. Do the devices only work with Raster Plus? I’m sure there’s other software available, but so far Raster Plus has always been the best choice. 2. What does the included driver/plugin do? Which driver do you mean? I run the whole thing with an ASPI driver and Raster Plus. The ASPI driver is for the SCSI card, though, not for the HR. 3. Do I need specific SCSI cards, or do they all work? At least Adaptek or Tekram; I haven’t tried others yet. 4. As a Mac user, I’m in a bit of a bind, as the software seems to have stopped at OS 8 or 9. The Raster Plus software I use is still Win NT software and works fine, but I can’t tell you how the Mac software fares or to what extent it still runs on OS X. Can I also run the device on a modern Intel Mac via XP provided I can find a SCSI card?...and what do I need for that? The ‘old’ software still runs on XP Pro SP3. You’ll need the ASPI driver for the SCSI card and Raster Plus. Nothing else. At least on an Intel PC running Windows XP (SP doesn’t matter) 5. What else do I need to bear in mind? Setting the correct film during exposure – I’ve put together a table to help me get the speed right, as the software usually only lists the film name without the ISO number :-) Best regards, Stähane

Thanks Stephane for the info, as for the drivers, the original package should actually have included a CD with drivers or a plugin for Photoshop, so you wouldn’t need to get hold of the currently overpriced old Raster Plus (which isn’t easy to find either) The devices are also usually sold without software, which makes things more difficult.
