Hello everyone, I’ve had my Durst C35 colour enlarger for years and, after a long search, I’ve finally managed to get hold of the matching Mekit 65 conversion kit from an Italian photography retailer. The conversion was supposed to take place today – yes, it was supposed to... Problem: after replacing the mixing chamber and reassembling everything, diffuse light is escaping from the edges of the mixing chamber where it meets the colour module, scattering widely to the left and right. There’s no way I can even think about loading paper. Question: Does any of you know whether this conversion kit (which, according to the enlarger’s instruction manual, is the correct one) includes a mixing chamber for a black-and-white enlarger and, alternatively, one for a colour enlarger? I’ve noticed that the KB mixing chamber says ‘Durst Mesicol 35’ and the 6x6 one says ‘Durst Mesibox 66’. I can’t find an answer to this, but that seems to be the only option. The 6x6 mixing chamber has a frame attached to it anyway, which doesn’t fit. Does anyone also have any ideas on how to seal the edges, in case I can’t find another mixing tank? I’m a bit wary of using Isoband because of the heat it generates and the fact that I still want to be able to swap the mixing tank out. Thanks and best regards Beatrix

Hello Beatrix, Seal either 1) with black felt (glued with epoxy resin adhesive) or 2) with black silicone rubber (available from DIY stores), which is heat-resistant up to over 150°C; in this case, all surfaces where adhesion is not desired must be coated with Vaseline or concentrated washing-up liquid from the kitchen – it’s best to test this beforehand. Does anyone have any ideas for sealing the edges, in case I can’t find another mixing chamber? I’m a bit wary of using Isoband because of the heat it generates and the fact that I still want to be able to replace the mixing chamber.

...so for sealing, I can highly recommend Black Foil or Black Wrap.
