EJG Hello, I’d like to try the Arcos 100 for night photography because of its good black-level performance – no need to increase the exposure time from the metered value. Does anyone have any experience with this film, particularly with developer combinations? I’d prefer X-TOL and rotary processing. Perhaps someone knows the times. Many thanks Regards EJG
mdeutgen Have a look at Jörg Bergs’ website. As far as I know, it contains the most comprehensive description of Xtol.
sgoetzin Hello, I’ve been using ACROS (KB + MF) + XTOL for 5 years and can highly recommend this combination: Here are a few points to bear in mind: 1. XTOL is best prepared using distilled water (5 litres is ideal, as you can then reuse the container). I use a magnetic stirrer, which makes dissolving the chemicals much easier. 2. Leave it to stand overnight so that the remaining chemicals dissolve completely. 3. Divide the 5 litres into 5 x 1-litre bottles, filling them to the top (airtight). XTOL easily lasts me 8 months. 4. ACROS does not produce 100 ASA. I usually perform exposure at 80 ASA (diffuse light) or 50 ASA (when there is a lot of contrast). Personally, I only use XTOL in a 1+1 dilution. I have no experience with 1+0. 5. I do not pre-rinse the film. 6. ACROS + XTOL must be shaken well. I tilt for 1 minute, pause for 1 minute, then tilt 4 times; otherwise, development may be uneven. Result: streaks 7. ACROS is a film that is very well suited to scanning, especially in medium format. Hope this helps a bit, but as I said, these are just my personal experiences. Other users may see things differently. Kind regards, Serge
Politer Hello, My settings for ACROS roll film and XTOL 1+1 in the processor at 22°C … 6 minutes 15 seconds. I use a 5-minute pre-rinse. I set the ISO sensitivity to 64 ASA. I hope this helps. Best regards, PDM
