GEPE offers frameless screens with and without a metal mask. The latter are designed to improve image sharpness during projection. Has anyone had any experience with these? Does it really make a noticeable difference?

I don’t have a comparison between Gepe metal and Gepe non-metal, but I do have a comparison between Gepe metal and [name forgotten] non-metal. Clear victory for Gepe metal. Regards Hans

Hello FTb, The Gepe frames with metal masks have a clamping mechanism that holds the slide in place. Gepe states the following on its website: "The lips on the metal mask are ingenious aids for holding the slide perfectly in place and allowing for individual alignment. During projection, the metal mask reduces the warping of the slide, as it is held evenly all round. The corners of the metal mask ensure sharp image edges.” In my experience, this does not entirely prevent the slides from “popping” during projection (glazed slides are clearly better in this respect), but the slide sits more securely in it than in simple frames.
