Hi
?
What ISO setting should I choose?
It expired in 1981
From what I’ve read, I’d guess 125–160 ASA.
The 400 ASA ones aren’t available anymore!
?
As I’ve got 5 rolls, I’ll ‘sacrifice’ one to test it out.

...it probably won’t be down to the speed – more likely the base fog... But just between us – what do you actually expect from a film that’s now about 36 years past its sell-by date... Film isn’t like wine, which ideally gets better with age... You can’t generally assume that you won’t get any decent results with expired film... But as a rule of thumb: the more sensitive the film, the more severe the base fog...

Hi Wolf
What I expect from this film.
Actually, nothing at all. Fresh is always better!
It’s just my playful side, and it’s worth 9 euros to me.
I like to experiment.
With these 5 rolls, it’s like a mountain. The mountaineer climbs it simply because it’s there.
By the way, I don’t think much of so-called Lomography.
Yes, the base fog can spoil the fun for me.
I might be able to see as early as today whether that’s the case.
In any case, yesterday I took 30 shots of a black cloth, a grey card and a white cloth.
I’ve assumed 160 ASA as a baseline.
Now I have 16 strips of film to roughly determine the development time with different developers.
And hopefully the fog won’t spoil the fun for me.

...well, everyone’s different – if you enjoy it, go ahead... ;-) But I wouldn’t go to all that trouble for just five films... With my 170 metres of well-aged Agfa Isopan IF, which I picked up on eBay, I reckon the testing was well worth it – that’s over 100 36-exposure films, after all...

Eh Wolf
You were absolutely right about that lens.
Unfortunately, the same goes for the grey filter.
With a density of 1.15, there’s hardly any room left for a photo.
Switching to a different developer is also nonsense in this case.
But I’ve now had this experience of my own.
It’s always better to learn from negative experiences yourself than just to read or hear about them.
Now I just hope that the 16mm ORWO UN54 I’m still waiting for isn’t as rubbish as this Ilford was.

...the less sensitive the film, the greater the chance that something decent will come of it...

I’d like to load the 16mm UN54 into 110 compact cartridges.
And then use them in my Pentax 110.
With 122 metres, I’d have plenty of film to refill for quite a long time.

Me, the madman
I’ve just developed another one of those ancient films.
And I’ve got some usable negatives!
Admittedly, the exposure time for the photographic paper was very long, but they print up very well.
I managed to reduce the base fog by adding KBr to the developer.
But it’s still just an experiment!
