MCP 310 and 312 from the second production batch are now back in stock in almost all sizes. We have produced a very large quantity, and we expect to be cutting rolls until May until the warehouse is full. By then, the shelves will hold the equivalent of a large detached house in terms of retail value. At the same time, we are working on the third batch. Unless we are inundated with demand (which, of course, wouldn’t be an unpleasant situation), all projections suggest there should be no further MCP shortages. So here we go – we’re starting to pack, and all outstanding MCP orders will be dispatched on Monday. Best regards, Mirko

It might turn out to be quite informative after all: Röonses Photo (March 2009) tested 12 black-and-white RC papers, and Adox MCP RC would likely have taken first place had points not been deducted because the paper is not readily available (in France). However, it was mentioned that the paper can be ordered from www.FOTOIMPEX.de. Incidentally, the ‘winner’ was Ilford Multigrade RC Warmtone (86 points out of 100; print due to high price and because it is slower than Multigrade IV), followed by Ilford Multigrade IV RC (85 points; blacks not black enough). From 85 points onwards, it is a ‘Top Achat’ or ‘Top Buy’. ADOX MCP RC took 3rd place with 84 points (84 points; deducted points only because it is available exclusively by mail order). The plus points were: high dynamic range; Dmax of 2.20 with Ilford Multigrade developer (Ilford Warmtone Dmax 2.25 and other Ilfords 2.10), making it almost top-tier, and rich blacks. I wish everyone involved in the production continued success, including financial success!

Dear Christer, thanks for the report. One question, however, is whether the same nonsense applies to photographic paper as it does to the Parker points for wine. I simply cannot understand how the characteristic ‘available by mail order only’ is factored into the rating. Can you buy Ilford in shops in Montier-en-Der, Mougins or Stella-Plage? That’s either extremely out of touch with reality, or deliberate, and the criteria were tweaked until Product A could appear above Product B on the list. Best regards, Hans

Hi Mirko, I’m glad to hear the paper is back in stock. However, according to your shop, the 13x18 and 18x24 sizes are only available on request. What does that mean? All the best! Volker

Hello Volker, The 13x18 size hasn’t come out of production yet, and neither has the 40x50. The 18x24 should be available, though. I’m out and about at the moment so I can’t check it myself, but I’ll have someone look into it. It sometimes happens that stock levels in the online shop only become visible a day or two later when there’s a lot going on with incoming and outgoing goods. The missing sizes are gradually coming in as the warehouse fills up. Best regards, Mirko
