Focal length: 75 or 80mm. Otherwise, it depends on what you want. I’m actually completely happy with my Opemus IIa fitted with a simple Anaret. I’d probably be just as happy with a Belar, if I hadn’t heard that it isn’t that good. Who knows what you want – maybe that’ll be enough for you, or maybe you’ll need AT LEAST a Leitz enlarger.

Oh, come on. Let’s have a bit of fun too! And you’ll learn something without even needing a book. Does that do any harm? Does it hurt? Exactly. It does no harm and causes no pain (cool, a classic ellipsis). Artists, too, should have a grasp of language. At least enough to be able to handle it. Best regards, Franz

You should also think in advance about how large you want your prints to be. With the Opemus’s big brother, the Magnifax (6x9), the low focal length meant that the maximum size was around 30 x 30. The only way to avoid projecting onto a wall or the floor was to use a 60mm wide-angle lens. Regards, Sven.

I’ve had a Kaiser for 15 years and I’m very happy with it. I can manage about 50x50 right to the edges of the trays. If I turn it over and perform exposure on the floor, 100x100 would be possible. I haven’t tried that yet, but I’d be tempted to give it a go. If only there weren’t the tray problem = cost problem. If you live near Frankfurt am Main, you’re welcome to come and have a look.

I also have the Magnifax 4. The Magnifax’s column is about 90 cm long. With that, I could easily enlarge photos to 30 x 45 cm. With a wide-angle lens, the maximum size is 50 x 60 cm. Happy shooting! Volker
