Hello, I’d like an electronic thermometer that takes readings really quickly. Basically, one that shows the temperature almost immediately when you dip it into the liquid. Do you have any recommendations? Thanks, Martin

Hi Martin, Real-time measurement is expensive. As a fairly quick measuring device, I use this one: http://www.phototec.de/catalog/product_inf...roducts_id=1086 (please excuse the link to a competitor’s product here; I don’t have another one to hand). It is calibratable and can therefore be traced back to my calibrated glass thermometer. I don’t use it in the wine shop, though. I don’t need the speed there; even self-calibrated wine thermometers from Fackelmann in the supermarket (costing 2.99 if you ground them) are enough for me. I use one of the Greisinger units as a meat thermometer in the kitchen and the other in chemistry. Best regards, Franz

Martin, I use the Greisinger too (though not for roasting; the 70-degree cooking method (according to Agnes Amberg) or the 80-degree method, which I now prefer, works well enough with a slow-responding oven thermometer – a quarter of an hour either way doesn’t make much difference), and it (the Greisinger) is quick enough for all tasks in the low-speed range. Conclusion: It should meet your requirements. Best regards, Hans
