Hello, Has anyone used an alternative product for the HLX 64627 bulb (50-hour lifespan)? For example, does the OMNILUX EFP 12V/100W GZ-6.35 !!500 hours!! fit? The pin width matches. The bulb is to be used in a Fujimoto G70 enlarger. Regards

Hello ejg, Whether it fits or not, the lifespan specifications refer to the intended use of the light source. On the halogen cable system, even the enlarger bulb lasts well over 1,000 hours. Similarly, the cheap replacement in the enlarger won’t last the stated 1,500 hours, but will only manage around 50 hours. Best regards, Franz

...this phenomenon is due to the fact that the filament in the lamp is a PTC thermistor – meaning that it has a lower electrical resistance when cold than when in operation. As a result, a higher current flows when the lamp is switched on. Although this is limited by the transformer’s characteristics, the lamp’s service life is nevertheless significantly reduced by the frequent switching operations that occur when the brightness is increased. A technical solution to this problem would be feasible, but the cost of such a solution would far exceed the savings...
