Hi everyone,
I’ve recently started using Adostab as a final wash after developing black-and-white films and prints.
When using it, I notice quite a lot of foaming, and after drying, streaks appear on the negatives.
Here’s what I do in detail:
- Developing roll or 35mm film in the canister;
- Washing in the canister for at least 10 minutes under running water, emptying the canister 2–3 times;
- Final wash for 2 minutes with Adostab and distilled-quality water, 1+20 (as per instructions), with the canister open, gently stirring the spiral from time to time;
- Drying without wiping, roll films hung slightly over the corner.
All at room temperature, approx. 20°C.
Should I make the solution weaker?
Has anyone had similar experiences and any tips?
Many thanks!...

The foam isn’t a problem in itself; it forms because ADOSTAB is a stabiliser with a built-in wetting agent.
Streaks, of course, are a different matter. We’d need to check where they’re coming from. Unfortunately, a wetting agent alone isn’t a foolproof guarantee against all streaking.
We might need to consider using something like a squeegee.
Sturdy kitchen roll works quite well for this, by the way (soft side facing the film). Wipe once and all the residue sticks to the cloth. But really, wipe just once, as the film dries immediately afterwards.
Alternatively, of course, a bath of distilled water and wetting agent can be used after the ADOSTAB.
Best regards,
Mirko

Thanks a lot, Mirko
I’ll do that next time I get the chance.
The foam really isn’t a problem; I was just wondering whether I’d perhaps made a decimal point error when preparing the solution...
