Hi, I’m looking for some Fomatone PE and FB warm-tone paper with a white backing (it doesn’t have to be pure white), as I bought the Fomatone FB and found that it has a terribly yellowish backing, which looks rather unattractive on exposed white circles (it looks a bit like it’s been yellowed by nicotine). Is there anyone here who’s tried Fomatone PE and can tell me what colour the backing is? ...or which warm-tone paper has one like that? Best regards Lui

Hi Lui, The Fomaspeed PE is a true white. Fomabrom is a bit more ‘off-white’, i.e. a ‘normal’ white (not washed with Persil); Fomatone PE and Baryt are quite similar in terms of base colour. So the PE version is probably a bit too garish for you too... The Kentmere Fineprint is slightly less yellow in terms of the base paper, but it has this odd “filigree” surface... I haven’t had a chance to try Variotone yet. Best regards, Henning

Hi Henning, Thanks for your reply. You’re right, I really do find Fomatone a bit too ‘kitschy’. The Variotone from ADOX is really great. I can highly recommend it. By Kentmere, did you mean the Baryt? Is there no longer any PE-based warm-tone paper on the market with a white backing? Like the Forte? Best regards Lui

Fomatone PE is not as heavily tinted as Baryt. Unfortunately, there is currently no paper quite like the old Forte. MCP is warmer than pure bromide silver papers (such as Multigrade IV), but not as warm as Polywarmtone or Fomatone. Best regards, Mirko
