Hi everyone, This is just an absolutely brilliant paper! Last night I did some uranotypes on it, and tonight I’m doing iron toning. I already like it for ‘normal’ prints (thanks again to Mirko for steering us away from the PW14 when we ordered the rolls back then!), but I’ve never seen such rich uranotypes as I do now on this paper. (I reckon Moersch is gnawing at the base of his enlargers right now...) Apart from that, it dries superbly using the tape method and in the press. My girlfriend, who knows absolutely nothing about darkrooms, ran the last prints through the press and took them out flat. I’d already been looking forward to wavy edges and a bit of banter, but that didn’t happen. In my humble opinion, you should snap this stuff up. My last invoice showed very clearly that FOTOIMPEX is now selling with bigger discounts. Best regards, Franz

Hi Franz, I’m always impressed by this paper too – if there’s another roll promotion coming up, I’ll be in again. It’s not for nothing that I picked up the habit from my brother, who’s strayed from the true faith… ;-)

Oh, so Michael’s last roll (note: pun intended!) ended up with you? I would have liked to have had the DeVere, but the chap from Bretzfeld was quicker off the mark. Never mind. Now I’m getting the L139 from the chap from Bretzfeld. That’s nice too, especially as it can stay there until I’ve moved house. As for roll goods, I’m no longer the right person to ask. You see, I ended up with the 60m leftover roll from our unfaithful acquaintance. And Mirko himself recently added a 50cm-wide one to the mix. Best regards, Franz

That’s right. Now that it’s about three years old, I’m running it through the Splitgrade (V2.6) with “other paper, normal speed” and very slight gradation correction (depending on the film, sometimes -0.3, sometimes 0, sometimes +0.2) and practically no brightness correction. And drying: I haven’t yet used any paper (not even MCC) that comes out of the drying press so quickly and flat. Conclusion: When the roll is finished and no new one is available, I’ll probably switch to sheet film. Unless the ADOX MCC is ready by then :) See you soon... Chris Z.

Hi Christian, I’m almost holding this avatar against you, given what happened in another forum :) And to set the record straight for Mirko: we received that paper straight off the production line back then, without any digestion. The stuff was practically still damp from the mill. No other retailer does something like that, and with that kind of warning. Normally, they shoot themselves in the foot with deliveries like that; for us, this delivery was an exception and was announced in advance to the customer, with all the necessary maturing processes in place. Mirko has always been upfront about this and probably got a nasty shock at first, given my style of price negotiation. In the Grade 2-3 range, however, I found the paper usable straight from delivery. Later on, the higher gradients became usable too. I prefer that to a fully matured paper that turns mushy and grey within three years. Just like my penultimate batch of MCP from Tura did eleven months after delivery. Oh well. Tura is history; the successor company is now focused on other core business areas. Best regards, Franz

Well, I’ve now managed to upload my own via a roundabout route. I kept getting an error message on the avatar page.

Mirko always played with his cards on the table and probably got a bit of a shock at first, given my style of price negotiation. I let it mature first. If I remember correctly, I didn’t cut into it until a year later... btw: The roll is listed in the webshop, but the delivery status is ‘on request’. See you soon... Chris Z.

Hi Christian, The avatar looks much better now :-) As for the rest: I agree with you. The paper needed a bit of time to settle, but that’s exactly what Mirko had told us would happen. And if you recall the public part of my ‘price negotiation’ with Mirko: all sides agreed on an acceptable middle ground that worked in our favour. It was a fair price for everyone, well below Mirko’s usual calculation (especially as he still had to pay for the roll cutting). Our price was nothing like what he’d envisaged. Thanks to tough negotiations, we were the bargain hunters for a special request. Which Mirko fulfilled. For us. He himself made almost no profit on it, merely covering his own risk. Of course, Mirko’s price for the roll in the shop was then much higher, based on the normal market and very reasonably priced (

Yes, the paper is brilliant; I used it to make lith prints last weekend – absolutely lovely. The exposure time was a good 15–17 minutes (Easylith 1:25 and +3 stops of overexposure), but the results were amazing. One of them is on display in the exhibition that Franz mentioned here. Roland
