Hello!
I bought half a litre of Rodinal a while back. But I’ve now mostly switched to HRX-II and only use the Rodinal for Adox CHS films. Given the small amounts I need at a dilution of 1:50, the bottle isn’t getting any emptier and the Rodinal is just sitting there ageing. That got me thinking: could Rodinal also be used as a paper developer? The chemical processes must surely be similar. Has anyone ever tried this? The concentration would probably need to be significantly higher, though.
Best regards,
Andreas

...it does work – but you won’t get much out of it... Because once mixed, Rodinal goes off in no time at all. If I were you, I’d pour the Rodinal into small brown glass bottles and use it as normal. In glass containers, Rodinal has an almost indefinite shelf life. Connoisseurs even claim that it gets better with age... ;-)

Exactly, Rodinal doesn’t go off that quickly. I read somewhere that you’re supposed to perform dilution of 1:10 when using it as a paper developer. Apparently, the oxygen in the water makes it go off relatively quickly, so I think it’s a shame to just waste the stuff like that. If you really want to get rid of it, why not give it away to a black-and-white beginner? They’ll be delighted with it. Or sell it on eBay for a euro.
