The ideal photographic paper

Hello everyone, I’m new here and please excuse any faux pas. After a long break, I’d like to start enlarging my own prints again given the rather poor quality of commercial enlargements, but I’m no longer up to date with black-and-white paper and chemicals. And today’s photo retailers aren’t much help either... I used to prefer working with Ilford Galerie, a baryta paper that could be processed like PE and delivered exhibition-quality results. My question: Ilford Galerie is apparently no longer on the market, but is there anything comparable in terms of image and processing quality? I’d be grateful for any suggestions.

Hello Authentischer, I use Adox Vario Classic FB as my baryta paper. It’s not quite as warm-toned as the old Galerie, but I quite like it. The Fomatone Variant isn’t bad either; it’s a bit warmer than the Adox. Best regards, Franz

Ilford still stocks a paper called Galerie: http://www.ilfordphoto.com/products/produc...ographic+Papers I don’t know where you can buy it. There are other good papers available too – though I’m afraid they can’t be processed like PE... Mirko’s shop can offer very good advice, even over the phone. ADOX and Foma produce papers ranging from slightly to distinctly warm-toned with variable gradient. Kentmere has a very nice one with fixed gradient.
