We will be unveiling a new paper at Photokina.
As there is a preview interview in Photonews, I have already uploaded some initial data to the
ADOX website.
We are now waiting for more sample material from the first scale-up.
After that, there will be much more extensive image material.
Best regards,
Mirko

Hi Mirko,
Congratulations again from me!
By the way, your parcel arrived here and my results from today/yesterday with the "Beta" MCP look very, very good!
I’ll be posting scans of the pictures soon. I still need to get used to the format, which is unfamiliar to me, and learn how to enlarge them (I usually do 30x40). Unfortunately, most people judge test prints based on the subject matter rather than the material.
What’s more, as expected and as is usual, the “Pearl” version is playing up quite a bit on the scanner. Women’s paper, heaped up for scanning, doused with water and dusted with powder :-)
Best regards,
Franz

Hello Mirko,
How thick is the backing? Is it cardboard-thick or paper-thick?
Kind regards,

Martin,
If we could get paper-backed sheets in saleable batch sizes, I’d have several customers crying with joy in no time.
The Variotone is coated on Schüler baryta paper backing. 250gsm, cardboard-thick.
The same backing used for MCC, Vario Classic, Ilford Multigrade and other papers.
Best regards,
Mirko

How much does it cost, then? :D
WolfgangMoersch
Just how steep is the price, then? :D
Everyone knows Mirko’s penchant for playing the do-gooder. The price is going to take a hit :D

What will the semi-matt version look like?
PW15 or PW17 (my favourite finish)?
MirkoBoeddecker
We are trying to give the semi-matt finish a relatively subtle matt effect.
In doing so, we are using PW 15 as a guide, rather than ADOX FP Vario Classic.
Best regards,
Mirko
Gawan
Dear photography enthusiasts;
In this first post, I’d like to start by introducing myself: my name is Gawan and I’m a third-generation family photographer who still practises analogue photography as a hobby. That’s why – fortunately – I’ve known Foto-Impex for several years now, as I develop and print my own photos, albeit only in black and white.
On the subject: ADOX Fine Print Variotone, new warm-tone baryta paper! - Last winter, I received a 25-sheet pack, directly from Mirko, in 30x40 format and made about 8 or 10 prints from TMax black-and-white films; I also compared them with Kentmere Fineprint; for the developer, I used Tetenal Variospeed, which was recommended to me, at least for the Kentmere Fineprint as well.
My conclusion: compared to the Kentmere, the ADOX paper required three to four times the exposure time and showed very little tolerance, meaning it had to be exposed precisely and could only be ‘pushed’ slightly. In terms of toning, it appeared at least equivalent to the Kentmere; however, the Kentmere exhibited considerably more practical development behaviour.
Caveat: This observation may, of course, have been down solely to the developer, Tetenal Variospeed. Andre Hinse also recommended Calbe or similar to me; my favourite is actually Kodak Selectol for baryta papers, especially for larger formats.
Righto, that’s it for tonight!

Hi,
In keeping with the rule that praise should be shared publicly: thank you very much for the paper!
This paper has completely blown me away. I think I’ve found my paper. It offers exquisite detail and a very beautiful, warm tone that’s easy to control with the developer. It also dries very well thanks to the strong backing; when air-dried, it remains slightly glossier than Vario Classic.
I haven’t had much experience with the Polywarmton and have been searching for quite some time for a lovely warm-tone paper that complements my preference for cool tones. I haven’t (yet) tested the toning properties extensively.
Best regards,
Christoph

Hi Mirko,
This might be a silly question, but is this the successor to Polywarmton, or something else entirely? The last update on Polywarmton was back in September, and I’m curious to see how the project is progressing!
