Hello everyone, I’ve bought a Rollop Automatic and I’m actually really pleased with it. Unfortunately, though, the self-timer isn’t working and the long exposure times are a bit sluggish. My question is: has anyone ever replaced the Prontor SVS shutter, and is it easy to do? I’d like to buy an affordable camera with that shutter at auction and swap out the shutters. It would be easier, though more expensive, to have the mechanism cleaned (it has become gummed up after long-term use). It’s not that easy to find a second one that works perfectly and will still be doing so in two or three years’ time. Regards, Sven.

...In my opinion, having the shutter cleaned is also a more effective solution. Resin build-up and a sticky self-timer are, after all, more the rule than the exception with older central shutters. And if it’s done properly, you’ll certainly have peace of mind for the next ten or twenty years – provided you do plenty of photography with it...

Well, as the two people before me have already written, a simple swap will most likely not be enough. After 60 years, the shutters need to be cleaned of old grease and dirt. It’s only really cheap if you can do it yourself. It’s not exactly rocket science, but you could end up ruining the thing in the process, ? Thanks for your replies. € I’ll start by seeing if I can take the shutter apart. Then I’ll have a look at some cleaning guides – I might just give it a go.
