Good news!
The second casting was successful and we will be receiving MCP 310 and 312 in 5–6 weeks.
The paper is currently being held in stock and will be cut to size afterwards.
As we are still operating the laboratory filling line in small batches, the quantity of material is limited.
We are now accepting orders under the terms and conditions published in the catalogue.
Anyone wishing to purchase this paper should please order soon, with a delivery date of 5–7 weeks, so that we can cut the available material to best effect.
Payment will, of course, only be due upon delivery.
The next casting is expected to take place in October and can then be delivered in November.
By then, the emulsion will have come from the large vat and there will no longer be any quantity restrictions.
Best regards,
Mirko

The glossy MCP came out of production today and is now in stock.
We will be dispatching the outstanding orders tonight.
MCP 312 is still being processed because a delivery of packaging has been delayed. However, we hope to receive the matt paper next week as well.
Best regards,
Mirko

Hi Mirko,
I’ve only just got round to giving the ADOX MCP 310 a proper go this weekend. I’m absolutely delighted with the results. The ADOX is at least on a par with the ‘old’ Agfa. I really like the base paper too – it’s nice and firm, not as flimsy as the Foma papers.
“It’s great that something like this still exists.” And “Made in Germany” too. Brilliant!

As mentioned at the start, we were only able to produce a limited quantity of MCP before Photokina.
As expected, it sold out in no time.
We were able to fulfil all initial orders, but supplies are now running low for repeat purchases. Only a few formats with a matt finish remain available.
In the meantime, the large vat is running and the emulsion is currently being prepared. We hope to start the first large-scale production run in spring 2009.
This will be approximately 10 times larger than the first batch, and from then on all formats will be reliably available.
Best regards,
Mirko

I'm really looking forward to it

Hello Mirko,
thanks for the good news and for your commitment!
I’ve now processed about 75 sheets of the new MCP and must say that it’s at least on a par with the original Agfa product. Good work!
I do have two requests, however:
- the 30x40 cm format back in cardboard packaging (50- or 100-sheet boxes) rather than in the folded envelopes.
- if possible, the thick original backing material again; the current thin backing is quite prone to creasing with the larger formats.
If necessary ;) I would of course accept a slightly higher price for this!
Best regards
Herbert

Hello Mirko,
I also picked up a few packs of the paper at Photokina. I really like it.
At the moment, I’m still using up the Fomaspeed Variant, though I’m not particularly keen on it. I’d hoped to be able to enlarge everything on MCP in future. I would also have liked to use the MCP for a planned exhibition. But as I discovered with my last order, the MCP is currently out of stock.
When can we reliably expect the MCP to be available again? There are rumours in some forums that the paper probably won’t be available before the end of 2009.
Best wishes!
Volker

Hello Volker,
Where are these ‘rumours’ coming from again?
There’s a group out there that doesn’t react in the slightest to information circulating around the world (as long as it could be used against us) and is very active on the forums.
As for the construction and operational readiness of the casting plant in Monheim, opinions are certainly divided. However, a view that it won’t be ready by the end of the year is very pessimistic.
This view is held by some of those more closely involved out of caution, given that the start-up has already had to be postponed several times, but it is, of course, just as much speculation as if I were to claim right now that the machine will be up and running in March.
The “rumourmongers”, however, are naturally only too happy to pick up on this and immediately force a tenuous link to the MCP, pointing at it with all ten fingers at once and shouting “Look here!”.
Yet I’ve said this at least 20 times by now (prayer wheel mode on): “As far as the MCP is concerned, we can perform coating regardless of the configuration of the Agfa casting machine being relocated; unfortunately, this is not the case with the MCC” (end of repetitive mode).
I had already announced that there are currently gaps in the MCP range before the launch of the first batch, which is why I asked for pre-orders.
Why is that?
(Those of you who always read along here can skip this paragraph now).
We produced the first batch entirely on the small pilot filling line in the former Agfa Leverkusen research laboratories. That’s a 40-litre kettle. To produce just 20,000 square metres of paper, this kettle has to run over 20 fills.
At current market prices, this is completely uneconomical for PE paper. However, we wanted to launch the product before Photokina.
That is why we asked for advance reservations, so that we could send sufficient paper to everyone who urgently needed MCP; we did not make any deliveries to bulk buyers and did not produce any printer rolls.
All relevant enquiries were referred to early 2009, and so far everyone has understood this.
We simply have to make do with what we have.
The next step, following Photokina, was to get the large tank up and running at InovisCoat (ADOX does not have one of these; with Bad Saarow, ADOX is planning only a niche production facility). This has now been achieved and we are currently producing emulsion for the first large-scale industrial casting.
The expected casting date is in January–February.
This will be followed by curing, quality control and packaging.
The first deliveries from this casting can take place in March, if all goes well.
From this production run onwards, there should be no further delivery delays.
The only hurdle left is transferring production to our own machine. However, the planned quantity should be sufficient to see us through even the ‘rumoured’ pessimistic deadline.
In any case, we’re staying on the ball and doing what we can.
Good light and a happy New Year,
Mirko

Good news.
The third MCP casting is complete and has passed quality control.
We are now preparing for assembly, ordering the packaging and currently drawing up the cutting plan.
The first formats should arrive in approximately 3–4 weeks.
Best regards,
Mirko

Hey Mirko!
Even if your "gender is unknown", someone’s got to say it: you’re a right old bloke!
Now all that’s missing is for you lot to resurrect the APX family, and then every one of you will deserve the title of VENERABLE MASTER.

Please, let’s not award these titles until after the MCC.
Until then, my confirmation of Mirko’s real existence should suffice.

I’m really impressed with the paper, but unfortunately it’s not available in 13x18 – I need that size for handing out prints and so on. Will you be getting any more of that in soon, Mirko?
MirkoBoeddecker
Hello,
Hopefully, the 13x18 and 18x24 (the two missing sizes) will finally arrive the week after next.
First we had quite a delay with the delivery of the white boxes, and then the cutting machine was blocked with a large order for coloured paper.
But those were the last sizes we needed to ‘stock up’ on. After that, we’ll just need to keep restocking.
Best regards,
Mirko

Hi Mirko,
As I won’t be needing the MCP for the foreseeable future (thanks to you and my upcoming move), just a quick note: your previous avatar was better.
On the subject of my need for the MCP: I’m moving house. And by September, I’ll have the large Labo in my Duka cabinet – the new flat can actually accommodate that luxury. Admittedly, the ceiling is only 2.15m high, but I can lower the worktop quite a bit, or if necessary set up the ‘small’ one for 6x6 and KB next door...
The basement is heated too; we’ll be installing the water and drainage in the next few weeks.
Best regards,
Franz
