Hi,
Can anyone tell me what matt baryta paper (e.g. Fomabrom Variant) looks like when air-dried? I’m asking because several people have told me that matt paper looks more elegant in a frame than glossy paper.
Is the surface even more matt than glossy baryta paper that has been air-dried?
I know this is a silly question, but I’ve never used matt paper before and find it hard to imagine having a photo in front of me with absolutely no shine at all...
Regards,
Lui

Hi Lui,
Matt baryta paper really is significantly more matt than air-dried glossy paper.
It scatters light on the surface and therefore doesn’t produce such deep blacks.
As for the ‘elegant’ look, that’s a matter of taste.
In any case, it’s almost non-reflective, which can be an advantage in some exhibitions where the prints are framed without glass.
As soon as you frame it under glass, there are really only reasons against it – in my opinion.
Best regards,
Mirko
