Hi,
Because of a faulty fridge, several rolls of black-and-white film froze solid for a few days ;) (ADOX CHM 125 and 400, unexposed and in their original packaging). I eventually managed to get the fridge back to a normal temperature and didn’t touch the films; they’ve now thawed out.
Are they still usable? Or are they particularly vulnerable (brittle...) etc???

Hello,
You really don’t need to worry about frozen film. Freezing is exactly what you do to extend the ‘life’ of film stock, so that it remains usable well beyond the stated expiry date. Just look at all the film I’ve got waiting to be used at -20°C. Mostly film stock that’s no longer manufactured, e.g. Agfa APX25, Kodachrome 25.
If your films are in their original packaging and show no other signs of damage – such as moisture, for example, because the fridge defrosted itself and flooded everything – then it’s no problem.

...exactly, I’ve had that experience too. I buy my roll films very cheaply from a master photographer with a studio; they’ve switched everything over to digital and no longer use analogue material. These films have been stored properly in the freezer for many years and, after being slowly defrosted in the fridge, are perfectly suitable for exposure. So, freezing film is the proper way to handle it and does not lead to any loss of quality, even after the expiry date has passed.
