To anyone who can help me ; ) I’m looking for a good combination of 35mm films that have similar characteristics. I was thinking of the following films: Adox CHS 100 + Kodak Tri-X 400 + Neopan 1600 . Are all these films best developed in D76, or would other developers be better? I’ve used the Adox CHS 100 before and developed it in Rodinal. Back then, the film was too flat for my liking. When enlarging, I had to go up to grade 5. Also, due to the single-layer technology, the film is very sensitive to scratches. (On the plus side, it has very nice grey tones and a lovely grain). Without a film scraper, I get drying spots on the films, even when using distilled water and a wetting agent (Mirasol). Can anyone give me some advice on which film to choose? Above all, how do I dry the CHS 100 properly without getting either marks from the film scraper or drying spots? Many thanks

Hi Timur, Here’s how I do it without leaving water marks or scratches: - Rinse in distilled water (twice!) - Salad spinner So, put the wound-up film into a suitable salad spinner (size, crank mechanism – not one of those rubbish rope-pull types) (use a second reel as a counterweight if necessary) and give it a good spin. Then hang it up, and you’re done. I rarely do this anymore, though, as I usually use wetting agent and distilled water in combination with a steam-saturated bath: hang the film in there soaking wet after applying the wetting agent, then close the door. Hi Franz, thanks for your quick reply. - penultimate rinse with distilled water - final rinse with distilled water - wetting agent with distilled water - Hang up soaking wet Is that what you meant? Do you have any further tips on development? Perhaps developers and times for a nominal sensitivity of 100 ASA? Many thanks

Hi Timur, Yes, that’s what I meant. To add to that: when I hang the films up, the humidity in my bathroom is 100%. So it’s pretty foggy in there. I don’t have any experience with developing films at their rated sensitivity. I don’t use them, you see :-) My films are: - R50 (discontinued, 120 format only) - TMY - HP5+ - Fomapan 100 - APX100 (discontinued, 35mm only) I develop in Rodinal and HRX-II. However, it looks like HRX-II will be phased out soon and replaced entirely by a Diafine self-mix. Best regards, Franz
