Unfortunately, there is no good news regarding the production of the new MCP paper.
As you all know, we wanted to launch the MCP before the MCC, as we had an alternative subsidy available to us.
However, problems have unfortunately arisen with this first large-scale production run. The photographic properties of the paper are perfect, but quality control has revealed visible defects. As we do not yet know exactly what the cause is, I am unfortunately unable to announce a new date. We may have to abandon the idea of launching the paper before the Leverkusen machine, which has been relocated, comes online.
In that case, the start of production for the MCP would coincide with that of the MCC.
I will post an update here as soon as we have further information.
If you have any questions, I’ll be happy to answer them.
There’s no need to worry that it might not work out at all. Once the new, old machine is up and running, everything will go much faster, as we won’t have to keep rescheduling but will be able to run tests on a daily basis.
Best regards,
Mirko

Hi Mirko,
That’s a real shame, especially as the backing and the chemicals cost money too. What are you going to do with the paper now? Would the defects be visible on every sheet?
Best regards,
Andreas

Hello Andreas,
The defects aren’t on every sheet, but they’re found in almost every pack.
At the moment, we’re only using the material for testing purposes in various exposure units and under different processing conditions.
The residue goes into silver recovery.
However, we’re already quite close to identifying the causes of the defects. The experts at the casting plant are really good people.
With a bit of luck, we’ll be able to start recasting soon.

Mirko

Hi Mirko,
I had the pleasure of trying out a sample pack of MCC 111 a few months ago and filled in my report and sent it to ADOX.
The paper was great apart from the flatness.
Has there been any positive development in that regard?
My FEM Kunze vacuum table worked well with Agfa, but unfortunately not with ADOX.
Best wishes,
Bernhard

Hello Bernhard,
We can’t make any adjustments to these settings until we’re able to run a print on the large machine.
As this is currently the main cause of the delay, nothing has changed in this regard yet.
The results from the small samples on the small machine accurately reflect most of the parameters of the new paper (i.e. the whites, the blacks, the grey gradations, the speed, the highlight reproduction, the gradation behaviour, the Dmax, the lithographic behaviour, the toning behaviour, etc.) – which is why it was suitable for the test run. However, the surface finish and flatness still need to be adjusted on the large machine.
Best regards,
Mirko

Good news.
There is a new schedule for the MCP.
We are currently working on a new emulsion again.
The analysis of why the March casting didn’t work out is almost complete.
If everything continues to go according to plan, the new casting date will be late June/early July.
We’re trying to get everything sorted as quickly as possible. Assembly is ready to go and will follow as soon as the material has cured.
The new prices are already listed in the current catalogue.
Best regards,
Mirko
