UlfSpuhl Hello everyone, A new thread has been created due to a misclick, but that doesn’t matter as the title fits well with analogue photography in general. In my view, shooting in medium format – for example, with a Kiev 88 or a Hasselblad 500 – is a wonderful, natural ‘drug’ that allows you to use the composition of the image to put the things in life that matter into the right perspective. This approach, primarily in black and white, provides life with the necessary substance to overcome crises and difficulties. Thus, analogue black-and-white photography is a ‘drug’ that gives something back to life when approached creatively and artistically; it clearly represents a gain and a sense of fulfilment, enabling success despite the gravity of the circumstances, in all modesty. EugenMezei Photography as occupational therapy? Why not? If it worked for Utrillo, why shouldn’t it produce a remarkable photographer as well? Eugen
UlfSpuhl ...well, May, this thread started as a response to a question here on the forum asking what drugs I might be taking, given my views on photography and life in general. Views that make me successful in my work with artistic photography, as my current major exhibition demonstrates. The result of this work is presented to the public. Despite all this ‘drug use’ – taking photographs and showing them to the public – success proves me right: this ‘drug’ is good. So, professionally, I’m sticking with the “drug” of creating images and enjoying my successful life. At the moment, collecting, talking shop about technicalities and hoarding photos isn’t necessary for my life plan; simply perceiving and seeing clearly brings everything that matters... cfb_de as my current major exhibition showsWhere? Opening hours? I’d love to have a look. Somewhere near Kempten, I suppose? Best regards, Franz
UlfSpuhl ...as is so often the case in life, it is a question of attitude; in this respect, one can harness the daily effects of drugs and substances, whether natural or synthetic, to transform them in such a way that they have productive qualities. It is defined that a drug is capable of altering something within the organism, but this need not be negative or life-impeding; with a rethought attitude, this change can have a very productive effect on life. Such a change can initially be achieved by the photographer during the process of taking photographic images, and later also by the viewer at the exhibition. The human capacity for conscious perception and seeing is in itself a drug capable of bringing about change in our existence within the forces of nature. Seen in this light, I too am ‘high on nature’ and delight in an expansion of consciousness through seeing... particularly through seeing by means of the analogue medium-format camera... Wishing you continued good light! Greetings, fluuu
