Hello,
Does anyone know of a website where different types of negative film (particularly colour and black-and-white) are compared, described, characterised and/or reviewed?
Thanks,
Paul

I’d like to know that too. There are endless discussions about it on the forums (I think there’s a thread here somewhere on the topic of ‘favourite film’), but I haven’t seen a systematic overview anywhere either.
The problem is also which characteristics are important and how one can compare them. Of course, one can measure and compare grain size, true ISO, dynamic range, and so on. Most manufacturers also provide data sheets that document all this in quite some detail. But I think, ultimately, these measurable properties are rather secondary. I, for example, use Fuji S 160 and Z 800 for colour, and Fomapan 100, Fuji Neopan 1600 and Polaroid for black and white. If I start thinking about the reasons for this now, they’re all rather subjective: I like the look of the images, the tonal range, the colours, etc. The only objective characteristic in all of this is that Foma is very cheap.
Regards,
Samuli
