Inspired by a discussion on Aphog, I decided to test how well high-resolution 35mm film compares to medium format film when using standard film stocks. After reading up on the subject and giving it some thought, I opted for the CHS 25 (formerly Efke kb14). Online, this film is said to have some undesirable characteristics. I cannot confirm this:
- Curling: My films lie flat. Pre-wetting is recommended, which I did.
- Soft emulsion: I cannot confirm this either. I processed the film normally and even treated it with a Jobo film scraper at the end. No scratches.
There are still a few weaknesses in highlight differentiation, which the catalogue mentions somewhat vaguely (do not suffer from overexposure). But I’ve only had the film since this week and still need to work on the development kinetics. It might improve a little yet.
It is also a true 25 ASA film.
