There isn’t really much more to say on the matter than I have already said.
Nor do I wish to stir up unnecessary controversy or drag this matter into the realm of falsehood.
My response to the allegations and “remarks” made by Robert Vonk in
the thread
linked above is as follows:
1) According to all the information available to me, MACO holds no emulsion patents of any kind.
2) All rights to the development of the IR820 lie with FOTOKEMIKA. The film is a FOTOKEMIKA development.
3) The original Sensitizer did not originate from a German company but was merely sourced via the German branch of an American company.
4) The research and development centre for AgfaPhoto GmbH (in liquidation) was located in building E49, floors 2 to 6, in the Bayer Leverkusen Chemical Park, within sight of machines K and L. There was, of course, cooperation within the group of companies, but the statement “the research centre for Leverkusen was in Mortsel” is incorrect.
5) The emulsions for the Gevaert-Aviphot range (like all Gevaert black-and-white emulsions) are filled in a ZR (central agitator) system. All APX emulsions are designed for ZS (dual-circuit system) systems and, according to all the information available to me, are NOT transferable to a ZR system.
Why so much misinformation has been posted on the above internet forum is beyond my knowledge. Please regard all my comments as
a neutral rebuttal
.
Under no circumstances should the impression be given that an Aviphot is inferior to an APX, or that the Gevaert research department is inferior to that of the former Agfa in Leverkusen, or that it matters in which country the Sensitizer was synthesised, etc.
I do not presume to pass judgement on this in any way. Nor have I made any comparisons to date between the films, Sensitizers (except with regard to their photographic effect) or even between the researchers.
It is simply the case that much of what is written there is incorrect, and as some of the allegations are serious or the information misleading, a correction is required.
I hope this brings the matter to a close.
Best regards,
Mirko
