Hello,
Can anyone tell me which developer works best for Fuji Across 100? I’ve tried using T-Max developer so far. The result is very fine grain, but too even – in other words, a little low on contrast. However, large areas of the image appear very solid and uniform; in 35mm, it’s almost like what you’d normally expect from medium format with traditional film stock. However, I have to develop the prints with relatively high contrast to achieve satisfactory results. Which developer would be better: Ultrafin Plus or Emofin?

...at what ISO and with what was the film developed? It doesn’t reach 100 ISO in every developer. Personally, I prefer Across Spur HRX-2 for the 100 ISO film – though I perform exposure as if it were 50 ISO.

Hello pauleica,
I once developed the Acros and the PO100c side by side for Maco. I did it in a rotary processor at 24 degrees, though – that’s just my standard method! I also used RO9 and Rodinal, among others. Why not give these developers a go as follows? I’ve ‘converted’ my original settings for you to a 20° tilt. The negatives should then be suitable for mixed-light enlargers! Gradient between 2 and 3.
RO9 1:80 at 50 ASA; 20 degrees, tilt, approx. 11 to 12 minutes
Rodinal 1:50 at 80 ASA; 20 degrees, tilt, approx. 11 to 12 minutes
Good luck.

Thanks, I'll give Rodinal a go.

Hello Paul,
In my opinion, the reproduction of fine detail is a fundamental weakness of films with flat crystals. For this reason, I prefer classic emulations such as ADOX CHS/CHM, Ilford FP4/HP5 or Agfa APX. If you bought the Acros for its fine grain, Ultrafin Plus is definitely a good option. The experts here on the forum will know even better combinations using products from SPUR or Moersch. If a bit of grain doesn’t bother you, I can recommend Rodinal at a dilution of 1+50.
Best regards,
Andreas
