Hello,
I’m planning to buy an enlarger and am still torn between the Durst M 601 and the M 605.
I know that with the M 605, you can swivel the head for floor or wall projections.
If the M 601 can do that too, I’d go for that one because it’s simply cheaper.
But perhaps there are other advantages to the M 605 over the M 601.
Unfortunately, I’ve found virtually no technical information about the devices online.
Maybe one of you can help me out.
Many thanks in advance!

Hi Flo,
The M601 I learnt on back then had a swivel head. Even so, I’d recommend the M605 instead. There are far more accessories available for it, the heat management isn’t quite as crude, the colour head is repairable, it can be retrofitted for split-grade later on, and it’s much more robustly built.
Those were the reasons behind my decision not to buy another M601 out of nostalgia.
Best regards,
Franz

Hi,
I’ve got a quick question for you, Franz, regarding the topic of ‘more parts on the market’… where can I get a 50mm condenser? I’ve got the M605 with a condenser, but unfortunately it’s only an 80mm one… which, when used with a 50mm lens at wide apertures, quickly leads to a drop in brightness at the edges… so I’m currently using my 305 more often...
This stuff used to be sold through Tetenal... but they wrote to me saying they no longer stock it...
Many thanks and best regards
Sebastian

Hello Sebastian,
Either on the second-hand market or (possibly) directly from Durst. However, condensers are and have always been parts that are rarely traded.
Best regards,
Franz

I have a 601. It can be swivelled and is capable of Scheimpflug. I’ve fitted it with a colour mixing head. I can’t see this unit causing me any issues with durability or overheating. It’s a huge improvement on my old Opemus4.

Hi everyone,
Thanks for the tips.
I’ve bought a 601 with a colour-mixing head and I’m really happy with it.
