Hello,
I want to create black-and-white prints on PE paper. As I don’t have any multigrade filters, I’m wondering whether it’s possible to use the built-in colour filters on my colour mixing head instead. If so, what settings do I need to use to ensure the filtering effect matches that of a Multigrade 2 filter?
Kind regards
Bastian

Bastian,
That’s actually a good question, so I’ll answer it here for everyone else.
Adjusting the colour balance using a colour wheel is very simple. Without any filters, most papers have a gradient of around 2. If you want more contrast, turn the magenta dial (the red one) inwards. At around three-quarters of the maximum setting, most papers reach their highest gradient.
If you want it even softer than 2, simply turn the yellow dial. Here, however, the softest possible gradient is usually achieved at just half the maximum possible setting.
Start by reading up on the numbers 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5, and just have a go. You decide whether you want the image to be harder or softer. You can’t really tell in advance whether you’ll need a 2, 3, 4 or 5.
Best regards,
Mirko
