Is the ADOX CHM 400 film actually the same as the HP5+ or is it just some second-rate stuff?
I think it’s absolutely brilliant, and as it comes from England too, that wouldn’t be unlikely. Does anyone know for sure? :-)
Most films are traded as so-called ‘master rolls’, i.e. coated film material packed in light-tight packaging. Other suppliers then use this to produce films, which involves cutting, perforating, edge exposure, loading into a cassette, wrapping in cardboard, etc. Incidentally, this process accounts for the main part of the added value.
For legal reasons, the supplier isn’t allowed to say it’s APX 100 or HP5+, of course. Strictly speaking, it isn’t either, because the edge exposure is different and the cassette is perhaps of slightly lower quality. But the material is the same. The FOTOIMPEX catalogue describes it as precisely as a supplier is permitted to.
I also use CHM films.
