As there have already been posts on this topic in English forums recently, I’m writing a short update for you here too.
Yes, attempts are being made to revive the MCC.
No, nobody is certain whether it will succeed, BUT:
all attempts so far have been successful.
All the necessary emulsions have been successfully filled using a new, computer-controlled system, and the crystal structure looks good.
Now it’s time for the digestion process, followed by the first multi-layer test castings.
Work is currently still taking place in Leverkusen in Agfa’s original premises, as the insolvency administrator has agreed to a temporary use of the site.
Since the summer, we have been working closely with former Agfa staff involved in this project.
There is not much more concrete information to share at this stage, but we are very confident that fresh MCC and MCP will be rolling off the production line by the end of 2007. The price will be competitive but not as low as it was before the insolvency.
We are also working on various product improvements.
For decades, the old Agfa structures effectively prevented suggestions from the marketing departments or customers from reaching the research team and being implemented.
The current collaboration directly with the research team is a real pleasure.
Further projects are set to follow. More on this soon in a second post.
Best wishes and Merry Christmas,
Mirko

Hello Mirko,
I wish you and your partners the best of luck with this venture. After all, the good old Agfa MCC was my favourite paper. Although I have found a really good, if very slow, alternative in the PW14. Since I now shoot almost exclusively in 6x6 and 4x5, the slowness of the PW14 is just right; it leaves enough time for dodging and burning when enlarging.
Are you also planning to revive the APX films? A modern emulsion under the ADOX label would be rather appealing, wouldn’t it :-) ?
Best regards and a Happy New Year
Heinrich
