Yes, I know the AP tins aren’t exactly top-of-the-range, but even so, the following problem shouldn’t occur: when developing a single roll of 35mm film, the reel slips during the process (hand development) – despite the use of a fixing clip – to such an extent that the film is no longer fully coated with the chemical solution, even when the tank is filled with 500 millilitres. Having more or less ruined one of my last Efke films in this way, I wanted to bring this mishap (in my opinion, a design flaw) to your attention here. Sure, you can get round this by filling the can to the brim (approx. 650 millilitres) and/or placing a second empty spool on top. But that’s surely not the point of the whole thing...

Hello, I’m not familiar with AP canisters, but I have a similar problem with Paterson canisters. That’s why I always use two reels, even if only the bottom one is loaded with film. That way, nothing slips out of place for me.

Hi Kai Why not try using a rubber band around the axle? If you wrap it around the axle a few times in the dark, it should stop it slipping once and for all. € My Plastimat tin has a plastic clip. So any clip that fits around the axle should do the job just as well. € Regards Highscore

The AP boxes come with a grey clamping ring, don't they... That's used to secure the reel to the shaft so it doesn't slip!

? No idea what you’re doing during development... I’ve been using the AP can for many years, and a reel has never slipped up.
