Unfortunately, I’ve noticed that Ilfotec HC isn’t available here at the shop where I usually order.
What other options are there?
Does anyone else have experience with Rodinal?
Hi Benny,
if you can’t get hold of Ilfotec, you can always use Kodak HC110. The times and dilutions are directly interchangeable and the results are indistinguishable. The possibilities are endless, whilst the differences are smaller than one might assume from the extensive discussions. The most important thing is the correct exposure (better to be a bit longer) and development time (better to be a bit shorter). I’ve tried Rodinal with both films and always found the results too soft. Rodinal worked great with the Agfas, but I wasn’t happy with the Ilfords and Rodinal. With the right processing, you can probably get the hang of it, but it doesn’t seem to me to be something for beginners, at least.
DDX is expensive. At a similar price per litre for the concentrate, DDX is diluted 4+1, whereas Ilfotec HC or Kodak HC110 is diluted 1+31 or higher. That works out at €3.69 per litre of working solution for DDX and €0.74 for HC110, according to the current Impex price.
Best regards
Stefan
