Hello everyone,
On my Contax RX (35mm SLR), the mirror only drops back down about a minute after I press the shutter button. Obviously, that makes taking photos no fun at all – so I took the camera to the Nikon repair service in Hamburg. They were kind enough to agree to fix my Contax.
The quote now shows material costs of 14 euros, whilst the labour costs of a whopping 180 euros are a bit steep for a student on a tight budget. When I asked, I was told that the mirror system and the mirror mechanism would need to be overhauled and readjusted. Is it really that complicated? Is there anyone here who’s technically savvy enough to tell me whether the costs are reasonable?
I also have the option of sending the camera to Tritec, the company that has taken over repairs for Contax cameras. Of course, that would only make sense if the total cost of 220 euros quoted by Nikon is definitely too high.
Thank you very much for your replies!

Hello,
Have a go at giving "JRK-Service" a ring. The bloke used to work in the Contax service department and still carries out repairs. He was able to tell me straight away how much a new "cloth" – including the cost of replacing the shutter in an RTS II – would cost – if they were still available ;-)

Hello,
I occasionally carry out simple repairs on my cameras myself. It takes up many hours.
If anyone has any doubts as to whether such repairs are really that complicated, they should get hold of a broken camera and try taking it apart. If you still have the inclination and patience, you can try putting it back together again.
€180 is about three hours’ work. That’s incredibly quick for a problem like this.
Best regards
