Hello!
In Silverfast AI, you can set the film type before scanning. Unfortunately, there is no setting for ADOX films. However, it is possible to import ‘profiles’ (presets).
Here’s my question: are there any corresponding ‘profiles’ available to download for the films distributed by FOTOIMPEX? That would be great!

Are you sure there are presets for black-and-white films?
I’ve only ever come across this with colour films because of the mask.

Yep! Ilford's HP5, Delta and the like are already in the mix!

In that case, it shouldn’t be a problem to achieve good results using one of the included profiles and any black-and-white film.
Black-and-white films usually have a clear backing, all have a bit of grain (which means IR-based dust filtering is doomed to fail) and are actually easier to scan due to the lack of colour information.
You need slightly higher hardware resolution because of the film grain. Or you can do without features such as ‘acutance’, which are almost impossible to achieve with modern film scanners anyway, thanks to colour optimisation.

Hello,
The problem with these profiles in the software sector is that they depend not only on the film, but also on the developer used, the development time, and so on. I prefer to optimise my scans manually.

With black and white images, you just need to adjust the black and white points (histogram), the tone curve if necessary, and of course the scan resolution. It’s quick to do manually. Options such as unsharp masking shouldn’t be left to an automatic setting anyway; you should try them out for yourself.
