Hello,
I couldn’t find the Eco 100 in the new catalogue (PDF). Has it been discontinued?

Hello,
I didn’t want to rush things because of all the fuss in Cologne, but surely at least one person should know the answer to my question after a good two weeks – unfortunately, better than some of the (more or less) helpful staff on the order line.
Best regards, Peter

Hi, regarding the Eco 100, I asked about it in the shop during my last visit to Berlin. It seems it’s not available at the moment. The friendly sales assistant said, however, that it’s not out of the question that it might be back in stock.
Well
Best regards
Marwan

Hello,
Thanks for your reply; I was just hoping for an ‘official statement’ from Mirko.
When I ordered by phone, I was told there was stock available, but it didn’t arrive; on another occasion, I was told there wasn’t any, so I ordered from somewhere else as well and ended up with two copies...

Hi Peter,
Sorry, but I’ve only just seen this.
After the trade fair, we’ve been really busy here with refurbishments, stock-taking and implementing new software, etc.
So I’ve neglected the forum a bit.
We no longer stock ECOS for the time being, as the manufacturer was unable to supply quality samples before the order, as he had done the first time round.
The ECO wasn’t exactly a runaway success, despite its price. What’s more, you can count on one hand the number of times it made a profit for us, because on a film costing 85 cents net, it’s impossible to earn more than 10–15 cents (when the cassette, base, silver and gelatin already cost 56 cents each), and that was too little to justify the handling.
We haven’t quite given up on the film yet, but for the time being it’s simply too complicated to source it given the expected modest return on investment.
Best regards,
Mirko

Hi Mirko,
No problem, I’m patient!
Based on the description in the catalogue (listed under Holga...) it just didn’t occur to me to try the film; it wasn’t that cheap either – I’m talking about, for example, 50 sheets of 4x5 ADOX CHS 100 for 22 euros versus 50 sheets of Eco for 16.
I recently got hold of two sheets to test and the first impression was really good. A bit too hard, so I should have developed it for a shorter time. I don’t have enough material for a final verdict. With an enlargement to 40x50, you can see the grain if you get up close, but it’s not excessive and it’s actually quite nice. The grey tones look good; I would have liked to test the film again at my leisure, as I think it’s quite usable for a number of purposes.
