Hello! Why are there tiny black specks all over my developed film, in places where they shouldn’t be? They look like dust, but they’re not! Does anyone know where I went wrong during the development process, or how I can get rid of these specks? What I did: Adox 125, shot at 200 ISO and developed for 10 minutes with D76 (all solutions at 20 degrees), as recommended on the package insert. Stopped and fixed for 5 minutes, then rinsed for 10 minutes and finally placed in the wetting agent bath for 2 minutes. The film was always on the reel and always in motion. Washing: 2-litre tank, reel moving up and down continuously. Every minute into a new tank with fresh water. Temperature between 20 and 23 degrees. The pictures turned out well, but these ‘fluffy specks’ are driving me mad. I’m begging for an answer!!! DOC

Could you have a go at scanning that? Did you dissolve the developer in a solution at 30–40 degrees rather than 20 degrees? Is there perhaps any cloudiness in the solution or dirt in the rinse water? Best regards, Mirko

Hi Mirko, That’s actually quite interesting, as I’d posted about a fault that sounds very similar, at least in the description: http://www.fotolaborforum.eu/index.php?showtopic=1246 . It’s just that (almost) everything about the process is different. Different film (CHM400) Developer (Tanol) Fixer (ATS, alk) No wetting agent, just water from a dehumidifier as the final bath... Scan of the positive (print) in the linked post. I actually wanted to keep using/reordering the CHM400, but after three rolls now, it’s not really fun without a concrete new idea of where to look next. Hi you two, I wrote that too quickly and in a panic: It’s actually quite simple, just blue dust... Everything’s fine!! I know, and I’ll give it another wash, and that should do the trick. The dust hasn’t even really baked on yet; it’s just not easy to blow off or wipe away without risking scratches. No hard feelings, and thanks for writing. As a reward: the print in the attachment!?
