Hello,
I have an Opemus 5 and was wondering what you all do with the ground glass screen. According to the instructions, it’s supposed to go in the filter drawer when using hard negatives. I’ve never actually put it in there before. A friend of mine said he used to use it all the time on his old camera.
Do you use the ground glass screen?

Hi M,
When I use my 5-series, the filter is actually always in place. Why? Because I usually forget to take it out, and it also makes the light a bit softer.

And don’t forget: today’s Opal lamps are a far cry from the quality of those of yesteryear.
Without a diffuser, you can often spot irregularities in the lamp’s casting in the photo, particularly on uniform grey surfaces.
