Hello, I’ve been offered an Omega enlarger with a colour mixing head from abroad. The photos I’ve been sent show a control box. The seller isn’t very familiar with the equipment. Am I right in assuming that a transformer is also included? Or is it built-in? I’d really appreciate a reply. Thanks

Hi massa, I’ve no idea what you’re after, and the information you’ve provided isn’t really enough to give a proper answer. You can buy a basic analogue enlarger kit quite cheaply right now (I have no connection with the supplier and am not bidding on it either): http://cgi.ebay.de/Horizontalvergroesserer...1QQcmdZViewItem In plain English, that means, “where are the pictures? / what’s this all about?”. Everything else sounds like: “Hello, I’ve been offered a VW vehicle with indicators from afar. The pictures sent to me show an ignition lock. The seller doesn’t know what he’s talking about. Am I right in assuming that a starter motor is also included? Or is it already fitted? Please reply urgently.” Which, in turn, means: no facts, no advice. You really ought to provide a bit more in the way of facts. A simple “Hey, I can see an enlarger in the fog” just isn’t enough. And even if it might be the Omega Nebula ten times over. Is that a big one too? So: - Model - Specifications (regarding lenses, image stages, insert masks, etc.) - Which colour head - Any spare bulbs included, and if so, what voltage - Transformer included, and if so, for what mains voltage Please ask the seller these questions and then ask here again what you can or should pay for it. “Hey, I’ve been offered an unknown VW” isn’t enough as a basis for information. My question was aimed at those who use or are familiar with an Omega enlarger. They’ll already know what a transformer is. In fact, there are devices that have a built-in transformer. Thanks anyway for taking the trouble.

Hi Massa, If it’s an enlarger with a colour mixing head, a transformer is absolutely essential. So it could well be a transformer. Regards, Uwe

Hello, Is this a Super Chromega Dichroic II colour head? It probably requires at least two power supplies: one for the lamp and one for the shutter. It may be that the scale lamp is also powered separately. The transformer is not built-in but external. It’s quite a heavy transformer, by the way, due to the 250-watt lamp. As US transformers don’t work here, there were probably various solutions when the enlarger was launched on the German market. I have an enlarger like that in the basement, but I haven’t used it for a while. My transformer even has a built-in timer... I hope that helps.

You should have bought it. I’ve got one of those in use at my place, in my little basement. It provides exposure from 1/10 of a second up to 1 hour. But you don’t sell things like that By the way, the transformer is separate, with all the light switches for operation Waldo
